The Retreat

A sanctuary, carved from the mountainside.

Built by a family who fell in love with Ella, Ceylon Crest is a quiet love letter to Sri Lanka's high country.

Our Story

Where mist becomes architecture.

Ceylon Crest began as a quiet idea — to create a sanctuary that did not impose itself on the landscape, but emerged from it. Eighteen suites, no more. Each oriented to catch the first light breaking over the Ella Gap, each crafted from local timber, granite and lime-washed walls by Sri Lankan artisans whose families have shaped these hills for generations.

We are independent. We are family-owned. Every choice here — from the indigenous plants in the gardens to the spices grown for our kitchen — is made with one question: does it honor the place we have been entrusted with?

Philosophy

Three commitments.

  • 01 — Place

Architecture and service shaped by Ella, not imported to it.

  • 02 — People

Ninety percent of our team is from the surrounding villages. Their warmth is our soul.

  • 03 — Stewardship

Rainwater harvesting, solar power, and a kitchen sourced within fifty kilometers.

Sustainability

A featherlight footprint.

Solar power, on-site rainwater harvesting, biodegradable amenities, and a partnership with the Ella Wildlife Reserve to protect endemic species. Luxury, we believe, should leave the land lighter than it found it.
